One of my favorite poems from 'Approaching Humanity' would have to be Remission. *Fragment: "I ask, please make my pain vanquish. I want to put my life in the clear. I want my pain to disappear." -- I immediately connected to that line because I can relate to the feeling of darkness and despair. Those days when you feel like ending your life because of a painful or stressful situation, feeling like you're the only person in the world with scars and tears. We all know that feeling very well, and we've all felt it one way or another for different reasons, but this poem speaks for itself. *Fragment: "I want to restart the ignition; put my pain in remission" -- that line talks about continuing to live and letting your pain be part of your strength. I can honestly say that words cannot even begin to express how grateful I am after reading 'Approaching Humanity'. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone and everyone. "Humankind cannot bear much reality"
Mr. Wood goes right to the heart of darkness, expressing the most raw feelings of both men (Crutch) and women (Porcelain)....while these are but two examples of our feelings of dealing with failure, heartache and disappointment, there those moments that we reach that make going through the rough spots worth the trip (seeing the Sun) (Road to Recovery). To me, this is a good road map for navigating the tough spots that all of us, as humans, have stumbled over.
I just finished reading this newest book from Luke Wood, and I am not disappointed at all with what I have read! Luke does exactly what the title suggests, and shares the approach to humanity from his perspective. From the times when life can seem at it's worst (Falling From Myself) to the acceptance of change (Eye of the Storm) to time when things are better and brighter for the one involved (Seeing the Sun), Luke allows us to share his thoughts along that path to humanity for all.
Approaching Humanity is a powerful compilation of poems. Lyrical, profound, and raw, I found myself moved by many of the poems in this book. Luke Wood is eloquent and captures an array of emotions that will leave the reader captivated. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the poems became songs at some point. Excellent work!
